Dustin Anderson was born and raised in Waco, Texas, the son of a second-generation glazier. Dustin's father, Earl, raised Dustin and his brother, Eric, around the family glass business. Dustin's mother, Becky, taught him to be creative and artistic in everything he did. She showed him that he could add a piece of himself to anything he worked on if he wanted to.
Dustin went to school in the small Texas town of Lorena just south of Waco. He attended Lorena schools from kindergarten through his senior year. After graduating, Dustin attended a local community college but gave school up to focus on a career in retail management. Dustin was the youngest operations manager in Texas at 19 years old working for a major electronics retailer. At 21, Dustin found himself between jobs and went to work for his father, for what Earl called a “few weeks.” During this time Dustin identified a need for him in the family business.
Dustin bought into his father’s glass business in 2001. Anderson Glass grew rapidly under the father/son team. The company went from a small, one-truck business to an active four-truck operation. In 2014, Earl sold his stake in the company to Dustin and Dustin took over the business completely.
Dustin became a regular artisan on the hit HGTV show Fixer Upper as Chip and Joanna Gaines's resident glass guy. The relationship with Chip and Joanna dated back eight years before the show’s premiere, so naturally Anderson Glass was a great fit for the show. Dustin's ability to take designs to reality created some incredible projects for the show while making him an audience favorite. In late April of 2024, Dustin announced the closing of Anderson Glass.
Dustin also tapped into his creative side by establishing a design company. D1 Design Group caters to Division I sports programs by designing and creating spaces that augment programs’ top notch facilities and also help with recruiting. In addition, the design company helps large businesses through project design of logos all the way to facility upgrades.
In addition, Dustin has engaged multiple industries around the country by speaking on current topics like mental health, hiring and retaining the younger generation, as well as how it often makes sense to prioritize one’s industry over company branding.
